DOG TRAINING
A dog that has not been given any instructions, training, or boundaries cannot possibly know what you expect of him. Teaching your dog how you want him to behave will lead to a saner household and a happier and healthier dog. You will develop a better relationship with your dog through training as there is perhaps no greater pleasure than owning a well-behaved dog. Start simple training with your puppy as soon as possible, as the sooner you start the easier it will be! Puppies can only concentrate for a few minutes and so training sessions should be kept very short in the beginning. Most puppies are very keen to please their new owners. Good training is about reward and consistency (the dog will get confused if you change the rules every day), so reward your dog with food or praise for behaviour you wish to encourage.
Socialisation is the period between eight and twelve weeks of age when a puppy forms relationships with other dogs, humans of all ages, and animals of other species. What a puppy experiences during this period has an important affect on its adult relationships. Puppies that are exposed to a variety of positive influences during this early learning phase tend to be better equipped socially as adults. We welcome you to attend our Puppy School at Southern Cross Veterinary Clinic.
